What is a VESC controller?

A VESC (Vedder Electronic Speed Controller) is an open-source brushless motor controller running VESC firmware. It uses Field-Oriented Control (FOC) for smooth, efficient, programmable control of BLDC and PMSM motors, configured via VESC Tool.

What is the difference between VESC and a standard ESC?

Unlike closed-firmware ESCs, VESC exposes every parameter (FOC, current limits, regen, throttle curves) for tuning, supports sensored and sensorless motors, and offers telemetry and scripting - ideal for custom EV and robotics projects.
